How To Factory Unlock Your iPhone Without Losing Jailbreak

AT&T finally changed their iPhone unlocking policies from April 8th and now they will unlock your off-contracts iPhones. A lot of people have successfully unlocked their iPhones using this new service, we’ve already discussed a lot about how this service works and who is eligible to apply for a factory unlock. Those who were successful in their unlock quest had to restore their jailbroken iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS in order get their iPhones unlocked because this procedure requires Apple’s interference via iTunes and the mothership releases an unlock request only when you connect a Deactivated iPhone to iTunes.

The procedure is pretty simple but you will loose your untethered jailbreak during this process because you have to restre your iPhone via iTunes on latest firmware which is iOS 5.1 and for now we just have a tethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1. Most of iPhone users who rely on software unlocking solution like Ultrasn0w hacktivated their iPhones to bypass Apple’s authentication and unlock their devices. Luckily iPhone-Dev team have a solution for those of you who want to factory unlock their iPhones via AT&T and still want to keep their untethered jailbreak. MuscleNerd, front man of iPhone-Dev team also confirmed this via Twitter update moments ago. You can Deactivate your iPhone (if it’s currently hacktivated and running Ultrasn0w) using latest version of redsn0w. Here’s how you can Deactivate your iPhone in order to unlock it while keeping your untethered jailbreak intact.
Things you will need during this process:
  • Redsn0w o.9.10B6 (Download)
Step 1: Connect your iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS with computer and launch latest version of redsn0w  0.9.10b6
Step 2:Click on “Jailbreak” button, now you will see your iPhone connected in a “Normal” state but before you continue you need to put your iPhone in DFU mode, follow the instructions on your screen to put your iPhone in DFU mode;
  • Hold down both the Home button and the Power button for 10 seconds.
  • Release the Power button and continue holding the Home button until (approx 15-25 sec) your device’s screen turn black.

Step 3: Sit tight! Redsn0w will now detect your build

Step 4: After successful detection of your iPhone’s build redsn0w will give you some options, check “Deactivate” and un-check all other options

Important: Don’t forget to un-check Install Cydia option
Step 5: After a complete redsn0w run your iPhone will be Deactivated or let’s say De hacktivated
Step 6: Now eject your SIM try and turn off your iPhone
Step 7: Turn on your iPhone and connect it with iTunes and insert your SIM try
If everything goes well iTunes will give you an Unlock message.
That was it folks, you can factory unlock your iPhones while keeping your untethered jailbreak intact.
If you face any problem during this process feel free to bug us.
We will keep you updated on this, stay tuned!
