Pod2G Exploits Required To Jailbreak iOS 5.1 Untethered

A good news just when you need it, famous iOS developer and hacker pod2g who is also a prominent member of Chronic Dev team has just announced that he has all exploits required to jailbreak iOS 5.1 untethered. Apple released iOS 5.1 last month when they introduced third generation of iPad, iOS 5.1 was jailbroken within 24 hours of it’s released but the jailbreak was limited to non A5 devices only which means iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and all new iPad were not supported. Currently we have a tethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1 which means you have to connect your iOS device to computer and boot it in a jailbroken state every time you reboot.

The new iPad aka iPad 3 was also jailbroken within 48 hours of it’s release with 3 different exploit by 3 different teams. The iPad 3 jailbreak was not released publicly because it wasn’t stable at that time. Pod2G also updated on iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak progress couple weeks ago and mentioned that there are still a few pieces which are missing in the jailbreak. In today’s update Pod2G has claimed that Chronic Dev team now has all the exploits required to jailbreak iOS 5.1 untethered. The announcement was made in a Twitter update earlier today:
News: we have all exploits required to do a new jailbreak. I’m working on bypassing ASLR at bootup.
This is a good news for people who own iPad 3 aka the new iPad because there is no public jailbreak available for iPad 3. However, there are still couple of things which we don’t know about this untethered jailbreak in progress. There is no official word from any member of Chronic Dev team regarding supported devices but we assume that this upcoming iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak would work on ALL iOS device including the new iPad.
i0n1c also has an untethered iOS 5.1 jailbreak exploit which he used to jailbreak his iPad 3 but he clearly mentioned in his tweets that he won’t release it publicly. iPhone-Dev Team and famous iOS hacker chpwn also demoed their iPad 3 jailbroken on latest iOS 5.1. There is no word from either iPhone-Dev team or chpwn regarding their iOS 5.1 unetethered jailbreak.
As always there is no official release date available for these iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreaks but remember that it can take a lot of time. Chronic Dev team released iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak in three months after they first demoed it on all iOS devices. So it’s possible that this jailbreak can also take some time.
